JOHNSTOWN – Whitney Brown finished with 17 points to lead Herkimer County Community College to a 62-56 victory over Fulton-Montgomery Community College on Tuesday in a Mountain Valley Conference women’s basketball game.
The Lady Generals outscored the Lady Raiders 17-12 over the final nine minutes to earn the win, including a 12-4 surge over the final 4:15.
Six of those 12 points came on 3-pointers by Brown and Shileeka Williams, who finished with 16 points for Herkimer.
“We were flat all the way through,” FMCC coach Kevin Jones said. “When you let teams hang around, it can come back and bite you.”
Sam Randio added 13 points for the Lady Generals, who have won four of their last five games and 10 of 12 after a 3-2 start to the season. Johnstown graduate Stacy Loucks scored two points for Herkimer, while Fonda-Fultonville graduate Alyssa Craig also played for the Lady Generals.
Sherice Gayle finished with 17 points to lead FMCC, while Kassandra Flowers scored 13 points.
Veronica Chea and Cheryl Osborne each finished with 11 points for the Lady Raiders.
“We didn’t execute on offense and we played bad defense,” Jones said. “We have to be perfect in all areas. If we’re not we’re going to struggle.”
The loss was the first since Nov. 20 for FMCC, which had won five straight games. The Lady Raiders’ only other loss came against Mohawk Valley on Nov. 20 by an 83-58 margin.
Herkimer (13-4 overall) will travel to SUNY Delhi on Friday for a 5 p.m. contest.
FMCC (13-2 overall) will host Hudson Valley on Thursday at 5 p.m.
