JHS skiers compete at West Mountain

QUEENSBURY – The Johnstown boys alpine ski team placed fifth, while the girls placed sixth at the Queensbury Invitational on Wednesday at West Mountain.

Niskayuna and Queensbury tied for first in the boys team standings with 19 points, while Saratoga Springs was third with 40 points. Johnstown was fifth with 72 points.

Queensbury won the girls title with a total of nine points, while Saratoga Springs was second with 23 points. Shenendehowa was third with 24 points. Johnstown was sixth with a total of 80 points.

Colin Dalmata led Johnstown, placing 14th with a time of 30.68 seconds. Joel Levin (31.36) was 20th for the Sir Bills, Zack Simone (34.05) was 38th, Nick Salatel (35.09) was 42nd, Austin Stergas (36.04) was 47th and Noah Western (40.40) was 65th. Lukas Levin also competed for Johnstown, but failed to finish the run.

Christian Brothers Academy’s P.J. Kotecki won the boys race with a time of 28.15 seconds. Niskayuna’s Philip Weeber (28.35 seconds) was second and Queensbury’s Alex Homan (28.90) was third.

Shenendehowa’s Julia Smith won the girls race with a time of 28.84 seconds. Queensbury swept the next three spots with Samantha Ballard (29.50 seconds), Katie Zilka (29.82) and Olivia Paolano (30.00) placing second, third and fourth, respectively.

Sara Kosowicz led Johnstown, placing 22nd with a time of 33.11 seconds. Hannah Keener (33.70) was 25th for the Lady Bills, while Serena Smith (35.77) was 33rd. Reilly Kotwasinski (37.94) was 42nd for Johnstown, Emily Havlicek (38.62) was 47th, Helaina Stergas (40.63) was 52nd and Whitney Western (40.87) was 53rd.
