B-P girls lose to Watervliet, 62-39

WATERVLIET – Mikayla Deguire finished with 26 points and six rebounds to lead top-seeded Watervliet to a 62-39 win over ninth-seeded Broadalbin-Perth in the quarterfinals of the Section II Class B girls basketball tournament Saturday.

The Cannoneers led 19-4 after one quarter and 38-15 at the half on their way to the win.

Ailayia Demand finished with 22 points, six assists and five steals for Watervliet, while Victoria Shufelt grabbed eight rebounds.

Kaitlin Wood scored 16 points to lead Broadalbin-Perth, while Rachel Orapello added 10 points.

Watervliet (18-2 overall) advances to Wednesday’s semifinals to face No. 13 seed Ichabod Crane at Rensselaer High School at 7:30 p.m. Ichabod Crane (10-11 overall) posted a 58-51 win over fifth-seeded Taconic Hills in the quarterfinals Saturday.

Broadalbin-Perth finished the season with a 9-11 overall record.
