CLIFTON PARK – Gloversville’s Nick Cirillo qualified for the championship heat in two events at the Section II swimming and diving preliminaries Friday at Shenendehowa High School.
The finals will begin today at 10 a.m. at Shenendehowa.
Cirillo was the top finisher in the 500-yard freestyle preliminaries with a time of 5:12.28 and is seeded third in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.85.
Canajoharie-Fort Plain’s Ruben McFarlane grabbed a pair of No. 4 seeds. He qualified in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.52 and in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.91 seconds.
Fonda-Johnstown’s Tyler Askew earned the sixth seed in the 100-yard butterfly with a preliminary time of 58.55 seconds.
Gloversville’s Brandon Paul and Skyler Deming grabbed the last two spots in the 50-yard freestyle finals with seventh- and eighth-place finishes. They had respective times of 24.01 and 24.07 seconds.
Canajoharie-Fort Plain’s Chris Deyette qualified for the finals with an eighth-place time of 2:16.14 in the 200-yard individual medley. He also qualified in the 100-yard breaststroke with a prelim time of 1:08.49.
The Sea Dragons’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Matt Helou, Deming, Paul and Cirillo earned a second seed with a time of 1:37.10 in the prelims, while Canajoharie-Fort Plain will be seeded seventh, qualifying with a time of 1:43.71.
Gloversville’s 200-yard medley relay team of Wade Inman, Deming, Cirillo and Paul was third in the prelims with a time of 1:48.21 and Canajoharie-Fort Plain’s team of McFarlane, Deyette, Jake Brody, Seth Ferguson were fourth in 1:50.45.
Canajoharie-Fort Plain’s 400-yard freestyle relay team of Bryn Clark, Jake Brody, Deyette and McFarlane earned a fifth seed with a time of 3:41.81 and Gloversville’s team of Helou, Hunter Pieniazek, Anthony Oathout and Inman was sixth in 3:47.14. Fonda-Johnstown’s team of Askew, Cody Arminio, Aaron Alvarez and Steven Dunbar grabbed the last spot with a time of 4:01.11.
The finals are set for today at 10 a.m.
