Girls Basketball Roundup: Herba, Wood lead B-P to win over Schalmont

ROTTERDAM – Kaitlin Wood and Katie Herba combined to score 31 of Broadalbin-Perth’s 35 points in a 35-21 win over Schalmont in the first round of the Class B girls basketball tournament Wednesday.

Wood finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Lady Patriots, while Herba finished with 15 points and three assists.

The Lady Patriots led 19-3 at the half on their way to the win.

Ciara Vitallo scored eight points to lead Schalmont, while Hailee Metzold added seven points.

Broadalbin-Perth (9-10 overall) will face top-seeded Watervliet in the quarterfinals Saturday at Watervliet at 7:30 p.m. Watervliet defeated 16th-seeded Schuylerville, 63-34, in the first round.

Schalmont finished its season with an 11-8 overall record.

South Glens Falls 50, Amsterdam 41

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Kasey O’Brien finished with 21 points, leading South Glens Falls to a win over ninth-seeded Amsterdam in the first round of the Class A Tournament.

The eighth-seeded Bulldogs led 10-8 after one quarter before outscoring the Rams 16-7 in the second quarter to take control.

Alexis Smith finished with 10 points for South Glens Falls (12-7 overall).

Cristiana Johnson scored 14 points to lead Amsterdam, while Sarah Fedullo finished with 13 points.

South Glens Falls will face top-seeded Troy in the quarterfinals Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Amsterdam finished its season with a 7-12 overall record.
