Nemo alters weekend sports schedule

The snowfall expected to be brought on by Winter Storm Nemo wiped out most of the athletic slate for Friday and today.

The entire schedule Friday was wiped out, while very few events remained on today’s slate.

The hardest hit was the Western Athletic Conference crossover basketball games and WAC Cup semifinals. The semifinals, originally scheduled for tonight at Fulton-Montgomery Community College in Johnstown,were postponed until Tuesday.

In the girls semifinals, Fort Plain will face Mekeel Christian Academy at 4 p.m., while Galway will face Berne-Knox-Westerlo at 5:30 p.m. The boys games will immediately follow with Canajoharie facing Schoharie at 7 p.m. and Fort Plain taking on Mekeel Christian at 8:30 p.m.

Today’s slate of boys and girls WAC crossovers was pushed to Sunday with all games being played at FMCC. In the girls crossovers, Mayfield will face Sharon Springs at 10 a.m., Saratoga Catholic will face Schoharie at 1 p.m., Northville will face Middleburgh at 4 p.m. and Canajoharie will play Duanesburg at 7 p.m. In the boys games, Northville will meet Sharon Springs at 11 a.m., St. Johnsville will tip off against Middleburgh at 2:30 p.m., Duanesburg and Saratoga Central Catholic will meet at 5:30 p.m. and Mayfield will close out the night against Berne-Knox-Westerlo at 8:30 p.m.

Elsewhere, in girls basketball, the Johnstown Lady Bills’ home game against Queensbury was rescheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, where the team will host Fan Appreciation and Senior Night. The Broadalbin-Perth Patriots’ game at South Glens Falls was rescheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m. Fonda-Fultonville will host Watervliet at 7 p.m. Thursday and the Amsterdam Lady Rams will host Troy at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

In boys basketball, the Fonda-Fultonville Braves will host Watervliet at 7 p.m. Monday, the Dolgeville Blue Devils will host West Canada Valley at 7:30 p.m., while Amsterdam pays a visit to Troy for a 7:30 p.m. game.

To the north, the Wells boys and girls basketball teams will host Willsboro on Monday. The girls will tip off at 4:30 p.m. and the boys will play at 6 p.m. Senior Night festivities will take place between the two games.

The Section II Class B boys bowling championships, which were scheduled for Friday at Boulevard Bowl in Schenectady, will take place Wednesday.

The Section II Division I and II Wrestling Championships were moved to Sunday at Queensbury High School.

Wrestling is slated to begin with preliminaries at 9 a.m. The championship finals are tentatively set for 8 p.m.

The Section II championship indoor track meet, which was scheduled for today at the University at Albany will now take place Feb. 17 at the university.
