Fonda qualifies for state golf tourney

ALTAMONT – Gloversville’s Josh Fonda fired a round of 76 Thursday at the Section II New York State qualifier at Orchard Creek Golf Club to earn a spot on the Section II team in the state championship.

Fonda finished third overall with a two-day total of 153.

Shenendehowa’s Kyle Matthews took home medalist honors with a round of 73 to bring his two-day total to 151. Runner-up honors went to Shaker’s Tanner Donovan who had a two-day total of 152.

Fonda will be in a group of nine Section II players at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Golf Championship next June at Cornell.
