GHS grad Johnston earns league honors

FARMINGDALE – The Sage Colleges’ men’s golf team finished in second place at the 2013 Skyline Conference Championships at the Bethpage Red Course, a par-70, 6,750-yard venue.

The two-day event saw defending league champion Farmingdale State College win the crown for the sixth year in a row, while Sage finished as the runner-up for the third straight year. The Rams earned the league’s championship, as well as the conference’s automatic qualifier to the 2014 NCAA Division III Championship in May.

The Rams earned the title for the sixth straight year after posting a school-record two-day team-total of 585. Farmingdale State finished 57 strokes ahead of runner-up The Sage Colleges.

FSC’s senior Adam Larkin (Bellmore, N.Y.) was the individual champion and Skyline Player of the Year after rounds of 71 and 72 for a two-day total of 143.

Sage freshman Kevin Johnston, a Gloversville graduate, earned Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year honors as well as a spot on the Skyline Conference First Team. Johnston finished the league tournament with a two-day total of 153 to finish fifth in the tourney.

Junior D.J. Ioele, a Johnstown graduate, finished in 17th after posting a 166 (85-81) for Sage, while senior captain Richie Christman, a Johnstown graduate, finished 23rd place with a 170 (84-86).
