H.S. Volleyball Roundup: Gloversville wins Schoharie Tournament

SCHOHARIE – Jenna Putnam and Katlyn Pierce were awarded tournament honors as the Gloversville Huskies took top honors at the Schoharie Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

Putnam, the tournament MVP and Pierce, the team MVP, led to Huskies to an 8-0 record in pool play against Fort Plain, Schoharie, Albany and Unatego.

Gloversville posted game scores of 25-8 and 25-18 over Albany to take home the tournament championship.

Fort Plain finished second in pool play and advanced to the semifinal round before falling to Albany.

The tournament raised $1,250 for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Gloversville is scheduled to host Hudson?Falls on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Johnstown second in Power of Pink tourney

QUEENSBURY – The Johnstown Lady Bills finished second to host Queensbury Saturday in the annual Power of Pink Tournament at Queensbury High School.

Johnstown advanced out of pool play against Schuylerville, Lake George, Berne-Knox-Westerlo and Ballston Spa, as the top-seed.

The Lady Bills defeated Section VII powerhouse Beekmantown 25-9 in the semifinals before falling to Queensbury 20-25, 25-23 and 15-8 in the championship match.

Annie Stock led the Lady Bills with 43 kills, 36 digs, seven aces and four blocks on the day.

Bri O’Rourke had 17 blocks and 12 kills, Jerica Holland contributed 57 assists, 11 kills, 10 digs, 11 aces and three blocks, while Alyssa Nellis had seven kills, eight blocks, 25 digs and four aces.

Johnstown is scheduled to host South?Glens Falls on Thursday at 6 p.m.
