CLIFTON PARK – Johnstown’s Erica Askew finished first in the preliminary round of the 200-yard individual medley to earn the top seed in today’s Section II Swimming and Diving Championships at Shenendehowa High School.
Askew, a senior, won the event with a time of 2:13.63. She also earned a spot in the finals with a second place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.61.
Askew will be joined in the 200-yard IM finals by teammate Cecelia Mowrey who placed fifth in the qualifier with a time of 2:23.67.
Mowrey also earned a spot in the 500-yard freestyle finals with her fifth place finish in 5:40.84.
Mowrey, Askew, Erica Wagner and Emily Miles teammed up to place fifth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:01.61. The girls also earned a spot in the 400-yard freestyle relay finals with a sixth place finish in 3:58.97.
Gloversville-Mayfield’s Kylie Cotugno placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.08 and will swim in today’s finals. Cotugno also qualified for the finals in the 100-yard butterfly with her sixth place finish in 1:04.99.
Desiree Ives earned a spot in the 100-yard backstroke finals with her time of 1:06.44, good for a fifth place finish.
The Lady Sea Dragons’ 200-yard medley relay team of Ives, Cotugno, Sam Stewart and Sara Curtis placed fourth in the qualifying round with their time of 1:59.29.
Ives and Cotugno were joined by Jenna Cordone and Jennifer Vickery to place seventh in the 400-yard relay qualifying and advance to the finals with a time of 4:05.83.
Stewart, Vickery and Curtis joined with Taylor Wadsworth to place eighth in the 200-yard freestyle relay preliminary and advance to the finals with a time of 1:53.41.
Gloversville-Mayfield’s Sam McGillis placed 11th in the 1-meter diving finals with her score of 273.10.
