Jefferson CC ends Lady Raiders’ season

SYRACUSE -The Jefferson Community College Lady Cannoneers pulled off an upset as they defeated Fulton-Montgomery Community College 72-54 in the opening round of the Region 3 Women’s Championship Tournament Friday at Onondaga Community College.

The fourth-seeded Lady Raiders rallied from an early deficit to lead 14-10 before the Lady Cannoneers came back to take a 38-30 lead at the half.

Jefferson maintained its advantage throughout the second half and pulled away for the 72-54 victory.

Stephanie Rice led FMCC with 16 points, while Radasha Pope added 14 points for the Lady Raiders.

Alyssa Crosby paced Jefferson Community College with 27 points, while Kathleen Coloney finished the game with 15 points.

Crosby was named the Region 3 Player of the Year, while Kristin McGraw and Coloney were named to the All-Region third team.

Rice was named to the All-Region second team.

Jefferson (19-7 overall) will play top-seeded Onondaga Community College in the semifinals today. Onondaga won their Friday match with Schenectady Community College, 96-48.

The Lady Raiders end their season with a 17-9 overall record, while going 17-7 in Region 3 play and 11-5 in the Mountain Valley Conference.
