Lady Raiders stop slide

JOHNSTOWN – After losing their last two games, the Fulton-Montgomery Community College rebounded to post a 76-52 win over SUNY Adirondack on Saturday in a Mountain Valley Conference contest at the Raiders’ Den.

On Monday, FMCC had its eight-game win streak snapped in a 54-50 loss to Corning Community College before dropping an 85-66 decision at Sullivan County Community College on Thursday.

In their last meeting with SUNY Adirondack, the Lady Raiders posted a 58-47 win over the Timberwolves on the road Nov. 21.

Early in Saturday’s game, the Timberwolves got out to a quick 10-5 lead.

The Lady Raiders rallied and Moet Jenkins tied the score at 12 as she converted a three-point play. Jenkins put the Raiders on top for the first time 19-18 to end the first quarter.

FMCC opened up the second quarter on a 10-2 run to take the to 30-23. Adirondack hung in with the Raiders and cut the lead back down to three. The Timberwolves converted a 3-pointer a the end of the quarter, but Kaina Martinez answered with a quick floater to end the half and give FMCC a 42-34 lead at the break.

Adirondack started the third quarter with two quick buckets to cut the FMCC lead to just four.

FMCC took over and went on a 10-2 run and extended their lead to 10 with three minutes remaining. The Lady Raiders were able to get numerous offensive rebounds and Martinez ended the quarter with a basket to put FMCC on top 54-42.

In the final quarter, the FMCC defense took over and the Lady Raiders ran away with the contest. FMCC outscored Adirondack 22-10 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Martinez led the Lady Raiders with 18 points, while My’eesa Grant had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Rylie Smith finished with 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists for FMCC, while Jenkins had 10 points and 13 rebounds. Abby Boyer added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Raiders.

Brittni Sardina scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead SUNY Adirondack, while Kayla Prosser had 12 points. Shannon Curley added 11 points for the Timberwolves.

FMCC (13-3 overall) is scheduled to travel to Schenectady County Community College on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. game.
