LAKE PLACID – Four Mayfield skiers took part in the final day of competition at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Nordic Skiing Championships.
Emily Cromie and Maggy Lambo represented Mayfield on the Section II girls team, while Devante Marshall and Josh Febbie were part of the Section II boys team.
Competing in her third straight state meet, the Lady Panthers’ Cromie skied for the Section II A relay team that placed fifth with a time of 29:16.1.
Mayfield’s Maggy Lambo who was 27th overall in Monday’s 7.5K classic race, was part of the Section II C relay team, which placed 10th with a time of 31:20.2.
Cromie, who was 22nd overall Monday, also earned the girls Section II Sportsmanship Award.
Other girls sportsmanship award winners included Camden’s Emily Cheney (Section III), Fairport’s Rachael Jones (Section V), Saranac Lake’s Jackie Garso (Section VII) and Wallkill’s Abby Williams (Section IX).
Honeoye Falls-Lima won the girls relay event, as the team of Gabby Wangler, Bridget Wangler and Sara Urckfritz posted a time of 26:54.7 points.
Saranac Lake’s Jackie Garso was the girls nordic combined champion.
Section V won the girls overall title with 491 points, while Section III was second with 374 points. Section II (357 points) was third, Section IX (164) was fourth and Section V (162) was fifth.
Honeoye Falls-Lima won the girls team title with a total of 86 points, while Old Forge was second with 76 points. Queensbury (52 points) was third, Saranac Lake (34) was fourth and Wallkill (32) was fifth.
In the boys meet, Lake Placid won the relay event, as the team of Scott Schultz, Patrick Broderick and Henry McGrew posted a time of 21:15.6.
Schultz also was the boys nordic combined champion.
Mayfield’s Devante Marshall, who was 32nd in Monday’s 10K classic race, was part of the Section II B relay team, which finished 24:56.6.
Mayfield’s Josh Febbie, who was 24th Monday, was part of the Section II C relay team. The team placed 13th with a time of 25:38.0.
Shenendehowa’s Owen Putman was the boys Section II Sportsmanship Award winner. Other Sportsmanship Award winners included Old Forge’s Henry Uzdavinis (Section III), Honeoye Falls-Lima’s David Harvey (Section V), Saranac Lake’s Bryce Hartman (Section VII) and Kingston’s Spencer Schindler (Section IX).
In the boys meet, Section VII claimed the overall title with 503 points. Section II was second with 415 points, Section V was third with 414 points, Section III was fourth with 279 points and Section IX was fifth with 97 points.
Lake Placid won the boys team title with 90 points, while Honeoye Falls-Lima was second with 68 points. Shenendehowa was third with 65 points, Old Forge was fourth with 37 points and Wallkill was fifth with 23 points.
Alpine Skiing
LAKE PLACID – One day after winning the slalom competition at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Alpine Skiing Championship, Saratoga Springs’ Sarah Coombs won the giant slalom event at Whiteface Mountain.
Coombs, who was the girls alpine combined champion, finished with a two-run combined time of 1:38.83.
Webster’s Gigi Vasile placed second with a total of 1:39.82, while Emma Willard’s Annabelle Feist was third with a combined time of 1:40.08. Rondout Valley-Kingston-Roosevelt-John A. Coleman Catholic’s Shiau-Tau Ciecierska (1:40.12) was fourth and Honeoye Falls-Lima’s Jane Baumer (1:40.58) was fifth.
Emma Willard’s Calynn Cerniglia (1:43.46) finished 10th, while Emma Willard’s Chloe LoFaro (1:45.22) was 13th. Other Section II finishers included Shenendehowa’s Sarah Petro (20th, 1:47.21), Queensbury’s Lexi Metivier (22nd, 1:47.47), Shenendehowa’s Melissa Taggert (23rd, 1:47.49) and Shenendehowa’s Tea Trufunovic (27th, 1:48.60).
Saratoga Springs’ Elizabeth McIntyre failed to complete her first run.
Section V won the overall title with 622 points, while Section IX was second with 526 points. Section II was third with 496 points, Section I was fourth with 442 points and Section VII was fifth with 340 points.
Rondout Valley-Kingston-Roosevelt-John A. Coleman Catholic won the girls team title with 105 points. Honeoye Falls-Lima was second with 99 points and Saranac Lake was third with 96 points. Shenendehowa was seventh with 56 points.
In the boys giant slalom, Windham-Ashland-Jewett’s Aidan Cohane won with a two-run combined time of 1:31.17.
Cohane, who was the boys alpine combined champion, also won Monday’s slalom event.
Shenendehowa’s Evan Scriven (1:33.28) was second, while Victor’s Ryan Fries (1:36.92) was third. Old Forge’s Carter Lawrence (1:38.33) was fourth and Lake Placid’s Andrew VanSlyke (1:38.76) was fifth.
Three other Section II skiers posted top-10 finishers.
Lake George/North Warren’s Lane Feldeisen (1:39.65) was sixth, Lake George/North Warren’s Cooper Perkett (1:40.52) was eighth and Queensbury’s Alex Hohman (1:40.99) was 10th. Other Section II finishers included Saratoga Springs’ Peter Hoffman (15th, 1:42.10), Queensbury’s Mike Guido (18th, 1:43.69) and Shenendehowa’s Alex Kruk (39th, 1:52.30).
Queensbury’s Hunter Montgomery and Glens Falls’ Matt Parent both failed to finish their second run, while Saratoga Springs’ Evan Georgia did not start his second run.
Queensbury won the boys team title with 97 points, while Pittsford was second with 92 points. Lake Placid (84 points) was third, Windham-Ashland-Jewett (82) was fourth and Warwick (78) was fifth.
Section V won the overall title with 613 points, while Section II was second with 577 points. Section I (525 points) was third, Section VII (35) was fourth and Section IX (342) was fifth.
