Gloversville splits pair of non-league games

GLOVERSVILLE – After losing its first game of the day Saturday, Gloversville rebounded to post a 7-3 win over Mayfield in a non-league baseball contest Saturday at Husky Field.

The game was part of the Glove Cities Baseball Classic, which features two games at both Husky Field and Johnstown High School.

The Huskies sealed the win by scoring four times in the bottom of the sixth to break open what had been a 3-3 tie.

Sam Salvagni earned the complete-game win on the mound for Gloversville (4-8 overall). Salvagni stuck out eight, walked two and allowed just two hits in seven innings of work. He also went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored for the Huskies at the plate.

Trevor Mee was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Gloversville, while Dylan Sweeney was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Aaron Dona, Gavin Brown and Evan Walrath all had singles for the Huskies.

Brandon Williamson had a single and two RBIs for Mayfield, while John Fancher had the only other hit for the Panthers.

In the first game of the day, Gloversville dropped an 8-3 decision to Unatego.

Jon Havens had two hits for Unatego, while Seth Burnham had a single and three RBIs. Dawson Wilsey added a single and two RBIs for Unatego.

Salvagni had a double, single and two RBIs for Gloversville, while Dona was 2-for-4.

At Johnstown High School, the Sir Bills posted a 10-4 win over Mayfield in their first game of the day.

Danny Jarabek finished with two singles, an RBI and a run scored for Johnstown (6-8 overall), while Jake Petrie had two singles and two runs scored. Mike Brown added a double for the Sir Bills and Charlie Osborne had a single, RBI and two runs scored.

Williamson had a double and an RBI for the Panthers (1-11 overall), while Hunter Young added a single and two RBIs.

In their second game of the day, Johnstown notched a 6-3 win over Unatego.

Nick Frasier and Hunter Livingstone combined on a two-hitter for the Sir Bills.

Jarabek had three singles and scored three runs for Johnstown, while Ben Wager had a single and two RBIs.

Parker Packard had a double and scored a run for Unatego.

Fort Plain wins pair

FORT PLAIN – The Fort Plain offense erupted for a total of 32 runs and 32 hits in wins over Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons and Hoosick Falls in the Bo Baker Tournament on Saturday.

In the first game of the day, the Hilltoppers rolled to a 17-2 win over Bishop Gibbons, finishing with 14 hits.

Drew Fureno and James May each had three singles and a double for Fort Plain (10-0 overall), while Bryce Thibodeau added a double and a single.

In their second game, the Hilltoppers smacked 18 hits on their way to a 15-1 win over Hoosick Falls.

Jon Calbet earned his first varsity win for Fort Plain. He also had three doubles and a single at the plate.

Drew Fureno and Jesse Heroth each had two doubles and a single for the Hilltoppers.

In the only other game of the day, Hoosick Falls posted a 9-2 win over Bishop Gibbons.

Dave Yankowski had four hits and scored three runs for the Riders, while Casey Rutkey had four RBIs and two runs scored.

Dan Yankowski and Chad Salazar each had three RBIs and scored two runs for Ichabod Crane.

Fonda-Fultonville slipped to 4-7 overall and 4-4 in Colonial Council play.
