Canajoharie defeats Mayfield in five games

MAYFIELD – The Mayfield Panthers and Canajoharie Cougars went the distance in Thursday’s Western Athletic Conference volleyball match at Mayfield High School.

Mayfield took the opening game but the Cougars rallied to win three out of the next four to take home the 3-2 victory on game scores of 14-25, 25-22, 25-17, 22-25 and 25-20.

Kayla Mastin led Canajoharie with 17 kills, 10 blocks, 13 points and three aces, while Jenna Shepard had 16 kills, 10 digs, 21 points and nine aces.

Sydney Shepard added 18 points, 28 assists and six aces, while Jessica LaPine had 10 digs and Franki Nares chipped in with four blocks.

Taylor Proctor had seven kills, 32 digs, 11 points and three aces for Mayfield, while Samantha Kent recorded seven kills, three blocks, 15 digs and three aces and Mikayla Myers finished with seven kills, 15 digs, three aces and a block. Alis Hart contributed six kills and 12 digs to the Lady Panthers attack, and Emily Mormando had 15 assists and 14 points. Katelyn Harrington chipped in with five points and two aces, while Amy Laubenstein had 12 points and four aces and Katie LaGrange added six points, two aces and five digs.

Canajoharie improves to 4-3 in the Western Athletic Conference and Mayfield drops to 4-6 overall and 4-3 in the league.

Fonda-Fultonville 3, Fort Plain 0

FONDA – The Lady Braves got eight kills and five aces from Juliet Mancini as they improved to 5-3 overall and 5-2 in the Western Athletic Conference.

Anne Sinicropi chipped in with 16 aces and three kills, while Katarina Nordby added seven kills for Fonda-Fultonville.

Liz Cortese paced Fort Plain (1-7 overall, 0-7 WAC) with three kills and Ang Gomez chipped in with two kills.
