OESJ cross country wins three at meet

BERNE – The Oppenheim-Ephratah boys cross country team went 3-1 during a Western Athletic Conference meet at Berne-Knox-Westerlo on Tuesday.

The Wolves topped Galway, 24-31, and posted wins over Bishop Maginn and Berne-Knox-Westerlo, which fielded incomplete teams. Schoharie edged OESJ 27-28.

Galway lost 27-28 to Schoharie and notched wins over Bishop Maginn and BKW.

Schoharie’s Noah Valvo was the top finisher in the boys race, covering the 3.2-mile course in a time of 18:15.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Xzavier Rich (18:36) was second, BKW’s Travis Jackson (19:17) was third, Schoharie’s Blaine Rose (19:32) was fourth and OESJ’s Tony Brado (19:48) was fifth.

In the girls meet, Galway fielded the only complete team, sweeping OESJ, Schoharie, BKW and Bishop Maginn.

Galway’s Natalie Zembsch won the 3.2-mile girls race with a time of 22:20. Schoharie’s Abigail Kosier (22:41) was second, BKW’s Caroline Mundell (23:04) was third, BKw’s Ariel Rourke (23:07) was fourth and Schoharie’s Ana Tessitore (24:39) was fifth.
