Several area golfers were among those selected to the 2016 Western Athletic Conference golf all-star team.
Canajoharie’s Mike Balfe was named the Large School Division Most Valuable Player.
The Cougars, who went unbeaten in league play, also had Chris Congdon, Aiden O’Neil and Austin Countryman named first-team all-stars.
Fonda-Fultonville’s Adam DeSorbo also was named to the first team in the Large School Division.
Galway’s Ryan Lovelass was named the Small School Division MVP.
Fort Plain’s Drew Fureno and Jacob Hazlett were named first-team all-stars, while Galway’s Sam Uline also earned first-team honors.
Northville-Mayfield’s Gavin Bown was named a second-team all-star in the Large School Division, along with Fonda-Fultonville’s Alec Mahon, Canajoharie’s Derek Countryman and Fonda-Fultonville’s Garrett Kowalczyk.
In the Small School Division, Fort Plain’s Brady Fureno, Galway’s Hunter Scribner and Fort Plain’s Taylor Gifford were named second-team all-stars.
Rounding out the first-team Large School Division all-stars were Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons’ Dan Jameson and Middleburgh’s Nick Wilsey. Bishop Gibbons’ Paul Fiorello and Middleburgh’s Ryan Haskin were named second-team all-stars in the Large School Division.
In the Small School Division, Duanesburg’s Dylan Carlson, Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Edwin Lawson and Schoharie’s Joe Polley were named first-team all-stars.
Rounding out the Small School Division all-stars were Schoharie’s Louis Hardendorf, Duanesburg’s Angela Sorrentino and Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Tristan Keyes who were named second-team all-stars.
