Several area players were among those named to the Western Athletic Conference girls soccer all-star teams.
The WAC names an overall all-star team that will be honors at the Section II banquet in December as well as a divisional all-star team.
Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville had senior midfielder Adelina Brundage, senior defender Emilie Engle, senior midfielder Abby Mosher and senior forward Alexis Romeyn named first-team overall all-stars.
Northville had junior midfielder Hannah Coupas and senior keeper Taylor Johnson named to the first team, while Fort Plain’s Amber Douglas (forward), Fonda-Fultonville Alyssa Duval (midfielder), Galway’s Griffin Gannon (midfielder), Canajoharie’s Bethany Mead (keeper), Mayfield’s Sydney Sheldon (midfielder) and Galway’s Leah Vanderhorst (midfielder) also earned first-team honors.
Schoharie junior midfielder Carrie Krohn was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player, while Schoharie junior defender Adrianna Cornell was named Defensive MVP.
The Indians also had forward Katelyn Krohn, midfielder Megan Krohn and midfielder Madeline Phelan named first-team all-stars.
Completing the first-team selections were Middleburgh defender Lyndsey McCoy and Berne-Knox-Westerlo midfielder Stephanie Mason.
In addition to its four first-team selections, OESJ also had senior keeper Caitlin Handy and freshman defender Bella Masi named second-team all-stars.
Fort Plain had freshman defender Gabby Jenks and junior defender Maecee Lathers named to the second team, while Canajoharie had junior midfielder Meghan Dingman, sophomore defender Alexz Lathers and senior forward Hannah Smith earn second-team honors.
Other area players named to the second team were Northville sophomore defender Brianna Bace, Galway junior forward Callia Boudreau, Mayfield senior midfielder Shelby Dopp, Northville junior midfielder Jill Hadland, Fonda-Fultonville junior forward Emma Rhodes and Galway junior defender Maya Vanderhorst.
Rounding out the second-team selections were Middleburgh’s Maddie Lawyer (defense), Duanesburg’s Emily McLaughlin (midfield), Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Micayla Sheridan (defense), Schoharie’s Abigail Wetsel (keeper) and Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Marleana Vonhaugg (midfield).
Divisional All-Stars
Galway had Callia Boudreau, Griffin Gannon and Leah Vanderhorst named first-team all-stars in the WAC Large School Division.
Also earning first-team honors were Fonda-Fultonville’s Alyssa Duval and Emma Rhodes; Canajoharie’s Bethany Mead and Hannah Smith; and Mayfield’s Sydney Sheldon.
Rounding out the first-team selections in the WAC Large School Division were Middleburgh’s Maddie Lawyer, Mekeel Christian Academy’s Rebekkah Dean and Middleburgh’s Lyndsey McCoy.
In addition to its first-team selections, Galway had Maya Vanderhorst and Jillian Quay named to the second team.
Fonda-Fultonville’s Julianna Taylor and Sarah Subik were named to the second team, while Mayfield’s Shelby Dopp and Angelina Mannino also earned second-team honors.
Canajoharie had Meghan Dingman and Alexz Lathers named to the second team.
Rounding out the second-team honorees in the WAC Large School Division were Middleburgh’s Marilyn Hanley, Mekeel Christian’s Grace Pigliavento and Middleburgh’s Rylie Smith.
