Mayfield, Johnstown compete in nordic opener at Gore Mtn.

NORTH CREEK — The Johnstown and Mayfield nordic ski teams opened their season Saturday in the Section II Early Season Opener at Gore Mountain.

In the 4K boys race, Mayfield’s Josh Febbie was 11th with a time of 11:04.3.

Connor Akowicz (12:48.1) was 27th for the Panthers, while Luka Nikollaj (14:14.9) was 39th. Other competitors for Mayfield included Jackson Dunn (41st, 14:20.3), Alex Yost (47th, 14:55.1), Shawn Allen (53rd, 16:58.5) and Antonio Mannino (54th, 18:15.4).

Gabe Cole paced Johnstown, placing 42nd with a time of 14:29.1.

Zachary Ropeter (15:27.9) was 49th for the Sir Bills, while Alfio DeMarco (15:52.5) was 50th. William Dickson added a 55th-place finish for Johnstown, finishing with a time of 18:38.2.

Queensbury swept the top four spots in the boys race with Brian Beyerbach (9:12.2) first, Nino Manzella (9:25.6) second, Daniel Manzella (9:34.8) third and James Conway (9:46.8) fourth.

Queensbury’s Eliza Blood won the 4K varsity girls race with a time of 11:19. Queensbury’s Maggie Borgos (12:03.7) was second and New Paltz’s Jordan Nagel (12:09.1) was third.

Johnstown’s Molly Sear was the top local finisher, placing 26th with a time of 17:39.5. Karla Navarro (19:57.8) was 37th for Johnstown, while Alayna Gray (22:59.8) was 39th.

There was no team scoring at the event.
