EDISON, N.J. – For the second consecutive week and the second time in his career, Marist baseball junior Andrew Rouse, an Amsterdam graduate, was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week the conference announced Wednesday for his performance in three games at the George Mason Patriots last weekend. The award is also the fourth overall of the season for the team.
In the three games, Rouse batted .500 (5-for-10) with four walks, three runs scored, one RBI, a .500 slugging percentage and a .615 on base percentage. In a 10-9 loss to the Patriots on Saturday, he went 2-for-3 with two walks, a run scored and one RBI and in a 4-1 win on Sunday, went 3-for-5 with a run scored.
Through 10 games played, Rouse leads the team with a .419 (13-for-31) batting average and on base percentage (.526) and is tied for first in hits (13). He is second on the team in slugging percentage (.581) and total bases (18) and is tied for second in RBI (7), doubles (2) and walks (7).
The Red Foxes are 6-4 through three weeks of play. Marist is coming off a two-of-three series win over George Mason last weekend with 3-1 and 4-1 wins on Friday and Sunday, sandwiched around a 10-9 loss on Saturday, during which the Red Foxes’ rallied for four runs in the top of the ninth but came up just short. So far this year, Marist has finished .500 or better in every weekend of play.
Up next, the Red Foxes travel to Annapolis, Md., for a doubleheader Saturday against Central Connecticut State University (10:30 a.m.) and Navy (2:30 p.m.).
