Area athletes competing for Sage

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. — The Sage Colleges’ men’s and women’s track and field teams were in action Saturday at the Mt. Holyoke College Spring Fling.

Sage’s women’s team posted a fourth-place finish in the team standings, while Sage’s men’s team finished in fifth place in the eight-team field. 

For the Sage women, freshman Joanna Tavolaro, a Broadalbin-Perth graduate, was second in the pole vault with her leap of 2.45 meters, while she was also third in the triple jump with a performance of 9.25 meters. She added an eighth-place showing in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 19.72 seconds.

Sage’s men’s team had a number of impressive finishes as well at the meet. Junior Barceem Dukes, a Gloversville graduate, was third in the discus with his toss of 22.32 meters, while adding a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 9.29 meters. He rounded out his day with a fifth-place finish in the javelin with a toss of 26.89 meters.

Senior Ian Alejandro, an Amsterdam graduate, added a 10th-place finish in the 800 meters in 2:21.27 for the Gators.

Sage will be back in action today, traveling to the Hamilton College Invitational.
