VanNostrand leads Mayfield softball team to victory

MAYFIELD — Karleigh VanNostrand recorded 11 strikeouts in the circle and connected for a double, single and three RBIs to lead Mayfield to a 12-1 Western Athletic Conference softball victory over Berne-Knox-Westerlo Thursday at Mayfield High School.

Kylie Cotugno added two singles, two RBIs and three runs scored for the Lady Panthers, while Angelina Mannino had two singles and scored two runs and Lindsey Hampton had two single and an RBI.

Sydney Benton had an RBI double and two runs scored, while Juliana Buyce doubled to with with a single and two RBIs by Taryn LaFontaine and a single, RBI and run scored by Sydney Sheldon.

Miranda Grzywacze, Laura Simpson and Reagan Smith all singled to account for BKW’s three hits in the game.

With the victory Mayfield improves to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in Western Athletic Conference play.

Foothills Council

Hudson Falls 4, Johnstown 1

HUDSON FALLS — Kierra McCarthy had three singles and scored two runs to lead Hudson Falls to a Foothills Council victory over Johnstown on Wednesday.

Grace Davis had a single and a double for the Tigers (6-3 Foothills), while Kate Lapan and Jessica Burch each had singles.

Cecelia Mowrey had a double and scored a run for Johnstown (3-5 overall, 3-4 Foothills), while Grace Giarrizzo, Anna Heroth, Salem Keeling and Sophia Frenyea eachhad a single.
