Large field competes at Caroga Creek

EPHRATAH — The month of June concluded last Saturday night at the Caroga Creek Speedway with 128 karts filling the pit area.

A total of 16 different divisions competed with the Winged Champ Kart Series at the 1/5-mile track in the final feature of the night staging their third series event of the 2017 racing season.

The Winged Champ Sportsman Shootout was captured by Jeff Swartz. With a huge field of 28 Winged Champ Karts on hand, it was Jeremiah Wagner besting the all star field in the 20-lap battle. Matt Chavis was second, followed by Chris Darrow, Jeremy Tuttle and Ryan Swartz completing the top five. Dodge City Speedway honored Courtney Crews with the sportsmanship award.

The month of July will start off with another special event this Saturday when the fifth regular points event will take place along with the third Clash at the Creek event for the Clone 340 division that saw Eddie Sickles claim the $500 win on June 3. Also, the Central NY Unlimited All-Stars will be in town to showcase their series. All competitors are reminded that pit gates open at 2 p.m. Practice by division commences at 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. and then heat qualifiers get flagger Charlie Squires green flag at 6 p.m.

Caroga Creek Speedway is located at 4200 Route 10. The facility offers plenty of free parking outside of the pit area and also offers a concession stand with food and beverages.
