Six area riders post wins at Royal

CAROGA LAKE — Six area riders were among the winners during STR/Monster Energy Supercross competition Wednesday at Royal Mountain Ski Area.

Fonda’s Tyler Blowers, Johnstown’s Casey Battisti, Johnstown’s Maxx Miller, Stratford’s Tom Hogan, Johnstown’s Todd Cleveland and Northville’s Eric Junquera all picked up victories.

Battisti won both motos to claim victory in the 122-250 amateur class. Battisti also claimed the win in the 122-open amateur class after finishing second in the first moto and first in the second moto.

Blowers won both motos to win the 122-250 novice class. Blowers also placed second in the 122-open novice class.

Johnstown’s Miller won the 50cc pee wee senior 7-and-8-year-old class, placing second in the first moto and winning the second moto.

Stratford’s Hogan won the plus-40 amateur class, while Johnstown’s Cleveland won the plus-30 expert class.

Northville’s Junquera won the quad expert class, sweeping both motos.

In addition to Battisti, Clifton Park’s Gavin Betts also picked up victories in two separate classes. Betts won the mini 60 7-to-11-year-old and junior mini 9-to-11-year-old classes.

In the quad classes, Delanson’s Madeliene Rose (mini quad 50cc), Ballston Spa’s Cody Milanese (mini quad 51-90cc), Troy’s Peter Miller (quad amateur), Victory Mills’ Scott Salls (quad novice) and Queensbury’s Mason St. John-Lemery (quad schoolboy).

Other winners included Middle Grove’s Kenneth DeRidder (122-125 two-stroke), Cassville’s Sam Spinella (122-250 expert), Saugerties’ Joshua Lambert (122-open expert), Preston Hollow’s Parker Chase (122-open novice), Whitesboro’s Nathan Baker (50cc pee wee junior 4-6), Cobleskill’s Joe Edwards (mini 80 12-15), Westerlo’s Blake Shaver (mini 80 9-11), Ballston Spa’s Brett Burns (open mini 10-16), Clarence’s Will Lueth (pit bike), Delanson’s Bill Rose (plus-30 amateur) and Frankfort’s Nicholas DeBernardis (schoolboy).

Several area riders posted top-five finishes.

Johnstown’s Bennett Melita was third in the mini 60 7-to-11-year-old class, third in the mini 80 9-to-11-year-old class and fourth in the junior mini 9-to-11-year-old class.

In the mini 80 12-to-15-year-old class, Johnstown’s Hayden Zelich was second and Gloversville’s Devin Buyce was fifth.

Zelich also placed fifth in the open mini 10-to-16-year-old class.

Johnstown’s Ian Cary was fourth in the mini 80 9-to-11-year-old class, while Gloversville’s Shane Graham was second in the 12-inch pit bike class.

Fonda’s Carter Petersen was third in the 122-125 two-stroke class and third in the open mini 10-to-16-year-old class.

In the quad amateur class, Broadalbin riders took three of the top four spots. Colby Watras was second, Josh Deuel was third and Fred Hansen was fourth.

Mayfield’s Andrew Ashbey was third in the quad novice class.

In the quad schoolboy class, Amsterdam’s Matthew Hirschfeld was second, Fonda’s Skyler Olmstead was third and Amsterdam’s Courtney Trombley was fifth.

Gloversville’s Salvatore Attigiato was second in the 122-250 amateur class, while Johnstown’s Sean Smith was fifth in the 122-250 novice class.

Gloversville’s Ethan Darling was fifth in the 50cc pee wee junior 4-to-6-year-old class, while St. Johnsville’s Chris Hill was fifth in the 50cc pee wee senior 7-and-8-year-old class.

In the plus-30 amateur class, Pattersonville’s Mike Baker was second, Caroga Lake’s Chad Stumpf was third and Gloversville’s Jason Hughes was fifth.

Johnstown’s Michael Ward was third in the plus-30 expert class.

A field of 166 riders competed Wednesday.

Monster Energy Supercross continues every Wednesday at 7 p.m. and the annual hillclimb event is scheduled for July 16.
