ALBANY — The Sage Colleges’ women’s volleyball team wrapped up competition Saturday, hosting the two-day Sage Fall Festival. Sage took the first match of the day, besting Mt. Ida College, 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-21). Mt. Ida then beat Rutgers-Newark, 3-2 before the final match of the event saw the Scarlet Raiders beat Sage, 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-22). The Gators now stand at 4-10 on the year.
Against Mt. Ida College, senior captain Alyssa Nellis, Johnstown graduate, picked up seven kills with two aces, 20 setting assists with five digs with three total blocks for the Gators.
Sophomore middle hitter Miranda Nethaway, Fonda Fultonville, graduate tallied six kills with a .357 attack percentage for Sage.
Against Rutgers-Newark. Nellis racked up four kills with eight setting assists, an ace and 10 digs and a block assists, while Nethaway chipped in a team-best eight kills with two block assists.
Nellis is now ninth on Sage’s career list with her 158 total blocks. Nellis also has 396 career kills.
On Friday, Sage opened the tournament with losses to the College of Mt. St. Vincent (3-2) and Skidmore (3-1).
Against CMSV, Nethaway tallied 10 kills with eight total blocks with 14.5 points, while Nellis picked up five kills with three aces, 22 setting assists with nine digs and four total blocks. Junior setter Brittany Orminski, a Galway graduate, racked up 11 digs with two aces for the Gators.
Against Skidmore, Nethaway led Sage with her 11 kills while Nellis added six kills. Nellis had 11 digs with three block assists and 21 setting assists, while Orminski had 13 digs with three kills and an ace.
Sage is back in action today, traveling to face SUNY-Cobleskill at 7 p.m.
