CANAJOHARIE — The Canajoharie-Fort Plain swim team will host local rival Gloversville today at 4:30 p.m. in the Nellis Memorial Pool. However, the hosts are also taking on a bigger foe as the meet will also be the team’s annual Coaches vs. Cancer event.
Beyond the action in the water there will be raffles, drawings, and a bake sale with a portion of the proceeds going to the KC Smith-Congdon Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship – which is annually awarded to two graduating Canajoharie seniors who plan to enter business education, mathematical education, or the medical field – is in memory of 1999 Canajoharie graduate Kathleen Carrie “K.C.” Smith Congdon who died in 2009 after a battle with the disease.
Funds will also support 2016 Canajoharie graduate Alyssa Parrino, who won the KC Smith-Congdon Memorial Scholarship, but was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia late in 2017. Parrino is currently undergoing treatment at Albany Medical Center.
Attendees are encouraged to wear orange to promote AML awareness.
The meet will be live streamed on the Canajoharie School District’s Facebook page — Facebook.com/canajohariecsd.
