Gloversville teams upset league leaders

It was a night of upsets by the Gloversville basketball teams as both squads knocked off the league leaders in Foothills Council action Thursday night.

The Gloversville boys got a 38 point performance from sophomore Dante Bouchard as the Dragons knocked off Glens Falls 89-80, while the Lady Dragons got a 23-point showing from junior Harmony Philo as they knocked off league-leading Scotia-Glenville 48-39.

The Dragons (9-3 overall, 7-3 Foothills) grabbed a 39-33 halftime lead only to have Glens Falls take the lead 59-55 heading into the final period.

Gloversville outscored the Indians 34-21 in the final eight minutes to pick up its seventh-straight victory.

Bouchard connected for five 3-pointers and went 11-for-12 from the free-throw line in his team-high 38 points effort, while Julien Deumaga had a pair of 3-pointers and was 14-for-18 from the line in his 26 points, nine rebound effort. Joey Rowback also hit a 3-pointer in his 14-point performance.

Gloversville converted on 33 of 39 free-throw attempts in the game.

Section IIs leading scorer Joe Girard III went 16-for-17 from the foul line in his game-high 45 point, eight assist effort. Noah Balcom and David Barclay added eight points apiece for the Indians.

The Dragons return to action tonight when they host Scotia-Glenville at 7:30 p.m. at Gloversville High School.

In Scotia Thursday, the Gloversville girls turned a three-point first-quarter deficit into a seven-point halftime lead and outscored the Lady Tartans 18-16 in the second half to pick up their second win in as many nights and ninth win in their last 10 games.

Philo, who joined the 1,000-point club on Monday, led all scorers with her 23-point performance that included a pair of 3-pointers and a 7-for-10 effort from the free-throw line.

Kendra Lavery added 15 points to the Lady Dragons (9-5 overall, 8-4 Foothills) victory, while Kerri Hauser finished with five.

The Lady Dragons’ victory drops Scotia-Glenville (9-2 Foothills) from the top of the league standings into second behind Amsterdam (8-1 Foothills).

Gloversville is scheduled to host Queensbury in a Foothills Council contest Thursday.
