Lady Raiders, Raiders post victories over ACC

JOHNSTOWN — The Fulton-Montgomery Community College basketball teams pulled off a sweep of visiting Adirondack Community College Sunday at the Route 67 campus.

The FMCC women opened the double-header with a 60-55 victory over Adirondack and the men closed out the day with an 83-65 victory.

The Lady Raiders bounced back from a 74-59 loss to Corning on Saturday for a victory against the Timberwolves.

FM led 33-23 at the half, but Adirondack started the third quarter on a 9-0 run and trailed 33-32. Diasia Deboue responded and scored eight straight points for FM to pull ahead 41-32.

In the fourth quarter, Adirondack shot well from behind the arc and at the free-throw line to tied the game at 54 with three minutes remaining.

McKiea Weekes converted on a crucial three-point play with less than a minute left to seal the 60-55 victory.

Deboue led FM with 27 points, while Weekes and Julie Hampton followed with 15 points apiece.

The Raiders also rebounded from a Saturday loss with Sunday’s win over the Timberwolves.

Johnstown grad Jamal Vazquez sparked the Raiders off the bench to give them their first lead of the game 15-12. Chris Toussaint scored seven-straight points to put FM up 38-23 before Adirondack cut the lead to five. However, FM closed out the half with a 46-38 lead.

The Raiders started the second half on a 12-0 run and take their lead to 58-38. The Timberwolves were able to pull within 14, but it wasn’t enough as the Raiders closed out the game, 82-65.

Brandon Cooper led FMCC with 18 points. while Toussaint added 15. Jaleel Jean Jacques finished with 10 points.

FMCC will take to the road for a conference double-header Wednesday at Schenectady County Community College.
