Royal Mountain skiers win GS titles

TURIN — Four members of the Royal Mountain Junior Racing Ski Team brought home first-place finishes from Sunday’s two-run Giant Slalom meet at Snow Ridge Ski Area.

Jill Sandel won the Under-14 girls competition and also turned in the fastest overall time for the girls for the day with her 1:01.36. Sandel posted runs of 29.65 and 31.71.

Brady Cotter won the Under-12 boys division and turned in the fastest overall time of the day for the boys with a combined time of 1:04.93 with runs of 31.04 and 33.89.

Carson Cheney won the U-10 boys competition with his combined time of 1:13.28, while Noah Stock was second in the division with a combined time of 1:16.52.

Samantha Sandel won the U-10 girls division with her two-run time of 1:08.04, while Gianna Ciaccio was fifth with a combined time of 2:12.33.

Andrew Lake placed fourth in the U-12 competition with his combined time of 1:09.62 and Jakob Hannah was sixth in the division with a 1:10.16.

Meghan Buffaline finished 11th in the U-14 girls competition with her combined time of 1:28.88.

The team competed at the Hovey Memorial Giant Slalom Race at Whiteface Mountain on Jan. 7 and Samantha Sandel brought home a second-place finish in the U-10 division with runs of 1:01.61 and 1:05.16 for a combined 2:06.77.

Carson Cheney was sixth in the U-10 boys with a 2:10.20, while Noah Stock posted a combined 2:19.82 for an eighth-place finish.

Carter Cheney placed fifth in the U-12 division with his combined time of 1:56.08, while Brady Cotter was 11th with a combined 2:08.28.

Colin cotter finished seventh in the U-14 boys division with a combined time of 1:51.71.
