JGIII honored as Player of the Year

GLENS FALLS — The honors keep rolling in for Glens Falls’ Joe Girard III.

Thursday Girard III was named the Gatorade New York Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

It is the third straight year the selection has comes from a Section II school.

Girard III joins 2015-16 winner Kevin Huerter of Shenendehowa and 2016-17 winner Hameir Wright of Albany Academy.

Girard III broke the state’s boys’ basketball scoring record and becoming the first boys’ player in New York to score 3,000 career points.

During his junior season, Girard III averaged 50.0 points per game and twice scored 60 points this season, and had other games with 59, 58 and 57. He ended his junior season with 3,306 points.

Girard III has received basketball scholarship offers from Duke, Michigan, Syracuse, Ohio State and Oklahoma.
