Gloversville, Johnstown each lose pair

GLOVERSVILLE — Spurred by a nine-run second inning, the Unatego Spartans defeated the host Gloversville Huskies 13-1 in the first game of double-header action in the Glove Cities Baseball Classic Saturday at Husky Field.

The Spartans sent 13 batters to the plate in their big inning with Jacob Marshall delivering a two RBI double, while Cooper Thayer had two singles in the inning.

The Huskies picked up their run in the bottom of the third when Broderick Royal drew a lead-off walk and came around to score on Trevor Mee’s two-out double.

Aaron Dona had two singles and a stolen base for Gloversville, while Raymond Strauser had a double.

Andrew Santobuono had three singles, an RBI and a run scored for Unatego, while Dawson Wilsey had a double, single, an RBI and a run scored. and Thayer had three singles, an RBI and three runs scored.

Averill Park 15, Gloversville 3

GLOVERSVILLE — In the second game of Glove Cities Baseball Classic at Husky Field, Averill Park got out front early, putting up six first-inning runs and went on to defeat Gloversville 15-3 in the night cap.

Ryan Deu came up with a two-run single in the top of the first for the Warriors, while Jacu Nichols delivered a bases-loaded, three RBI double in the top of the third to help ice the win.

Nichols finished the game with a single, double and four RBIs, while Jason Foust had a double, single, two RBIs and a run scored. and Avery Pasc added two singles, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Gloversville picked up two runs in the bottom of the fourth with Anthony Russell-Tomek leading off with a single and Dona drawing a walk. Mee delivered Russell-Tomek to the plate with a single and Brandon Becker scored Dona with a sacrifice fly.

The Huskies picked up a third run in the bottom of the sixth when Mee scored on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Lamphere.

Gloversville (4-6 overall, 2-2 Foothills) returns to Foothills Council action Monday when the Huskies host Johnstown (2-8 overall, 0-6 Foothills) at 7 p.m. at Husky Field.

JOHNSTOWN — In the Johnstown portion of the Glove Cities Baseball Classic the Sir Bills fell to Averill Park in the opening game 10-0, and battled back in the night cap to load the bases in the bottom of the seventh but came up on the short end of the 5-4 final score against Unatego.

Dawson Sanges and Trevor Porter both doubled for the Sir Bills against Unatego.

PERTH — Brodryk Benton plated the game’s only run with an RBI double in the fifth inning to lead Broadalbin-Perth to a victory over Hudson Falls at Broadalbin-Perth Middle School.

Alex Gardner had two hits for the Patriots, while Nick Myers had a single and scored the game’s only run.

Myers also earned the win on the mound, striking out nine, walking one and allowing three hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Raven Carlisle, Aiden Gillis and Konnor McKeown all had singles for Hudson Falls.

DUANESBURG — In its second game of the day, Broadalbin-Perth got three home runs, five RBIs and three runs scored from Jack Szumowski in an 8-4 victory over Duanesburg.

Brodryk Benton had a double, single and an RBI for the Patriots, while Nick Myers was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Matt Hinderliter, Alex Gardner, Dante Calderone, Danny Sargent and Paul Bush all had singles for B-P (8-3 overall).

Boone Lynch had a single, double and an RBIs for Duanesburg, while Andy Drescher and Matt Gentile each had two hits.
