Mayfield clinches WAC Cup berth with win

BERNE — Jillian Botch recorded 12 strike outs in her two-hit performance in the circle for Mayfield as the Lady Panthers defeated Berne-Knox-Westerlo 10-1 Thursday at Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School.

With the win, Mayfield clinched a spot in the WAC Cup game on Monday.

Botch backed up her effort in the circle by connecting for three singles and a double and four RBIs at the plate.

Juliana Buyce had three singles and three runs scored, while Taryn LaFontaine tripled and scored three times and Sydney Benton had a double and two RBIs. Lindsey Hampton had a single and an RBI and Emily Senese singled and scored a run.

For B-K-W, Kaelyn Lobalbo singled and Morgan Heath had an RBI single.

Mayfield (10-4 overall and 9-1 WAC) is slated to play Fonda-Fultonville today.

Fort Plain 6, Middleburgh 4

FORT PLAIN — Michaela Stockwell picked up the complete game victory for Fort Plain striking out 12 and adding a triple and two-runs scored Thursday at the Fort Plain Sports Complex.

Jenna Reese went 3-for-4 with three runs scored for the Lady Hilltoppers (10-3 overall, 7-3 WAC).

Lexi Stephens, Cassidy Coon and Hallie Gasnef all singled for Middleburgh.

Galway 7, Duanesburg 3

DUANESBURG — Emma Smith connected for a two-run home run and pitched a complete game three-hitter with eight strike outs to lead Galway to the Western Athletic Conference victory Thursday.

Jillian Quay was 4-for-4 on the day with four singles, two runs scored and an RBI for Galway ((6-4 WAC), while Hannah Hofmann went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Mo Hoffman led Duanesburg (3-11 overall, 3-7 WAC) with a double and two RBIs.

Foothills Council

South Glens Falls 26, Gloversville 0

GLOVERSVILLE — Maddie Capozucca pitched four innings of no-hit ball and connected for two first-inning home runs to help south Glens Falls defeat Gloversville 26-0 and improve to 17-0 overall and 12-0 in the Foothills Council.

Capozucca also singled and drove in six runs for the seventh-ranked Class A team in the state and top Class A team in Section II. Celyna Shaw went 5-for-5 with two home runs, five runs scored and four RBIs, while Sadie Clough added a home run.

Sheyenne Beach collected the Huskies hit.

HUDSON FALLS — Caitlin Kelleher had a home run and three RBIs and Teagan Andrews struck out 10 to lead the Black Horses to victory over Hudson Falls Wednesday.

Andrews added a double and and RBI for Schuylerville (12-2 overall, 9-2 Foothills), while Emily Vallee went 2-for-3.

Glens Falls 10, Queensbury 9

GLENS FALLS — Glens Falls rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Queensbury 10-9 in Foothills Council action Thursday.

Taylor Scarincio went 3-for-5 on the day with two doubles and four RBIs, while Stephanie Meehan was 4-for-4 with a double for Glens Falls (6-9 overall, 5-7 Foothills).

Emma Guilfoil went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Karley Hertzner was 3-for-4 with a double for Queensbury (8-9 overall, 7-6 Foothills), while Justice Colvin added a double.
