Area golfers advance

ALTAMONT — Three area golfers advanced to the second round of the Section II Class ABCD Tournament on Tuesday at Orchard Creek Golf Club.

Johnstown’s Ethan Wager, Broadalbin-Perth’s Stuart Bond and Galway’s Ryan Lovelass all finished among the top 20 and advanced to the second round at Orchard Creek.

Lovelass, who qualified for the state tournament last year, tied for 11th on Tuesday with a round of 80. Wager and Bond tied for 18th with rounds of 84.

Canajoharie’s Derek Countryman also competed Tuesday. He placed 34th with a round of 93.

Saratoga Springs’ Nolan Crowley, Guilderland’s Aidan Seery and Ichabod Crane’s Trevor Wolfe led the field of 36 golfers with rounds of 75. 
The top 20 finishers from Tuesday’s round all advanced to the final round.

Shenendehowa’s Paul Goetz and Hoosick Falls’ Matt Smith tied for fourth with rounds of 76, while Saratoga Springs’ William Braxton, Albany Academy’s Aidan Fitzgerald and Albany Academy’s Ryan Warnick tied for sixth with rounds of 77.

Also advancing were Shenendehowa’s Jack Manning (ninth, 78), Albany Academy’s Nick Lyons (10th, 79), Hoosick Falls’ Ryan Bloomer (11th, 80), Saratoga Springs’ Anthony Cavotta (11th, 80), Bethlehem’s Mike Muller (11th, 80), Saratoga Springs’ Clarkie Carroll (15th, 81), Shenendehowa’s Mike Westfall (15th, 81), Shenendehowa’s Luke Potter (17th, 83) and Greenwich’s Jake Owens (20th, 85).

Owens won a three-way playoff with Christian Brothers Academy’s Chris Jorgensen and Greg Wyman to advance after all three posted rounds of 85. Due to inclement weather in the forecast, the state qualifier was rescheduled from Thursday to Friday at Orchard Creek Golf Club. The event will begin at 11 a.m.
