Cougars rally to win Palmer Tournament

CANAJOHARIE — The Canajoharie Cougars rallied from an 11-point third-quarter deficit to defeat Schoharie 74-72 in the championship game of the Andy Palmer Holiday Tournament Saturday at Canajoharie High School.

Canajoharie trailed 58-47 at the end of three-quarters of play but outscored the Indians 27-14 in the final eight minutes to pick up the tournament title.

Luke VanSlyke led the Cougars with 25 points, while Derek Hyney finished with 14 and Isaiah Logan and Joey Nare chipped in with 11 points apiece.

Skyler Jankowski paced Schoharie with 24 points, while Shane Helmstadt hit five 3-pointers in his 21-point effort.

STILLWATER — Jackson Atty scored a game-high 27 points in Fonda-Fultonville’s 66-62 overtime loss to host Stillwater Saturday at Stillwater High School.

John Luca led Stillwater with 17 points and Grant Baker added 14.

Mitch Araya added 10 points for the Braves.

VERNON — The Broadalbin-Perth Patriots fell short in the scoring Friday and Saturday at the annual Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Tournament.

The Patriots rallied for 26 fourth-quarter points against host VVS, but came up on the short end of the 57-54 final score.

Saturday, Broadalbin-Perth got off to a show start against Waterville, which won 56-47.

MAYFIELD — The Northville Lady Falcons rebounded from a 62-41 opening night loss to defeat Galway 44-24 to take home the victory in the consolation game of the Mayfield Holiday Tournament Saturday at Mayfield High School.

Kerrigan Groff led Northville with 13 points, while Brytney Moore and Brianna Bace delivered 11 points apiece.

Morgan Drouin led Galway with seven points and Aila Bishop finished with six.

VERNON — The Broadalbin-Perth Lady Patriots dropped a pair of games Friday and Saturday at the annual Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Tournament.

The Lady Patriots fell to host Vernon-Verona-Sherrill 49-35 on Friday and dropped a 51-40 decision to Holland Patent in the consolation game on Saturday.
