OESJ girls defeat Edmeston, 61-50

HERKIMER — Adirondack and Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville picked up victories in the first round of the Section 2/Section 3 girls basketball challenge Saturday at Herkimer county Community College.

Adirondack defeated Fonda-Fultonville 48-35, while OESJ picked up a 61-50 victory over Edmeston.

Fontana LaCoppola led a trio of OESJ players in double figures with 18 points, while Rebecca Trumble finished with 13 and Shiann Harmon chipped in with 10.

Madison Bolton led Edmeston with 19 points, including five 3-pointers, while Lexi Williams and Maria Williams finished with 10 points apiece.

Fonda-Fultonville outscored Adirondack 20-15 in the second half but could not recover from a slow start, falling behind 33-15 at the break.

Abby Lombardoni led the Lady Braves with 12 points, while Kyla Smith had six to go with five points apiece from Carly Atty, Avery Cusack and Alyssa Duval. Krystal McSpirit rounded out the Fonda-Fultonville scoring with two points.

Belle Kranbuhl led Adirondack with 13 points, while Eric Sanford added 12 to go with nine points apiece from Hannah Miller and Cam Roberts.

The second half of the Section 2/Section 3 Challenge will be played at Fulton-Montgomery Community College on Jan. 19.

Non-league

North Warren 40, Mayfield 37

CHESTERTOWN — Mayfield could not overcome a 13-point first-quarter deficit as the Lady Panthers dropped the non-league contest Saturday afternoon at North Warren Central School.

Lindsey Hampton and Kelsey Meca led Mayfield with 11 points apiece, while Katie LaGrange chipped in with 6 points and 17 rebounds. Meca added six steals and five rebounds to her game stats, while Hampton had three steals and three rebounds and Taryn LaFontaine pulled down five rebounds.
