It was another banner year with local sports teams and athletes rising to the top of the leagues and divisions.
The Fort Plain Hilltoppers made a bid for their third New York State Public High School Athletic Association baseball championship, while the Broadalbin-Perth and Mayfield volleyball teams advanced to the state Final Four tournament in Glens Falls.
Fonda-Fultonville’s Brittany Castelluccio brought home the state long jump championship from the Cicerio-North Syracuse, while several athletes earned podium finishes at the high level of competition.
Five area basketball players also hit the 1,000-point milestone in 2018, while four coaches were honored for guiding their teams to 600, 400, 300 and 200 career victories.
