Area athletes earn Empire 8 honors

ALBANY — The Sage Colleges’ had 46 student-athletes honored for their efforts in the classroom for the Fall of 2018 with the release of the Empire 8 Presidents’ List. 

The Empire 8 Athletic Conference announced its Presidents’ List for the Fall 2018 semester, and 817 student-athletes representing the league’s nine full-time members and 10 affiliate institutions were recognized for their contributions on the field and their excellence in the classroom.

Recipients of this honor must earn a 3.75 grade point average or higher while participating in a conference-sponsored sport. In addition, the student-athlete must display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution.

Stevens led the way with 164 student-athletes recognized followed by St. John Fisher (135), Nazareth (94), and Utica (93).

Fonda-Fultonville graduate Emily Parslow (women’s basketball), and Broadalbin-Perth graduates Victoria Opalka (women’s cross country, women’s track and field), Megan Ryder (women’s volleyball), Kayla Weaver (women’s volleyball) and Joanna Tavolaro (women’s track and field) were among those honored for Sage.
