SARATOGA SPRINGS — Heading into this season, just two players in Mayfield boys basketball history had hit the 1,000-point mark for their careers.

In the last 21 days, that number has grown to four.

Sophomore Trevon Gifford became the latest Panther to score 1,000 career points, scoring 25 in a 78-58 non-league victory at Saratoga Central Catholic on Tuesday.

Gifford, who scored his 1,000th point in the third quarter, now has 1,005 points in his Mayfield career.

He joins Garret Delaney, Babe Baldwin and Dave Clark as the only boys in Mayfield history to reach the milestone.

Delaney, a senior, hit the 1,000-point mark earlier this month in a 75-53 home win over Saratoga Catholic on Jan. 2.

After he scored a game-high 31 points Tuesday’s win over the Saints, Delaney is now at 1,142 points for his career.

Baldwin, a 1957 graduate, ended his career with 1,826 points, while Clark, a 1993 graduate, scored 1,169 points for the Panthers.

Four girls have hit the 1,000-point mark for Mayfield as Stacie Hime (1990), Trista Capano (2007), Julie Hampton (2016) and Sydney Sheldon (2017) all reached the milestone.

The Panthers jumped out to a 32-8 lead after one quarter against the Saints on their way to their sixth straight win and ninth in their last 10 games.

In addition to Gifford and Delaney, Evan Lehr also hit double digits for Mayfield, scoring 12 points in the victory. Lehr also had seven rebounds and five assists, while Delaney added nine rebounds and nine assists.

Jordan Catone scored 20 points to lead Saratoga Catholic, while Jake Welcome added 12 points.
