Raiders’ win streak ends at 10

CORNING — Christian Simmons finished with 16 points and nine rebounds to lead Corning Community College to a 64-45 victory over Fulton-Montgomery Community College in a Region III men’s basketball contest Saturday.

The Red Barons led 33-19 at the half on their way to the win.

Jon Ward had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Corning, while Ja’Shaun Smith had 12 points. Tamar Jackson added 10 rebounds for the Red Barons, who held FMCC to a season-low 45 points.

Juwan Malone had nine points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and three steals to lead FMCC, which had its nine-game win streak snapped.

Amadou Diakite had eight points for the Raiders, while Darren Demmitt pulled down eight rebounds.

FMCC (11-2 overall) is scheduled to travel to SUNY Adirondack today for a 1 p.m. contest.

FMCC women defeat Corning

CORNING — Niaimani Marshall finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals to lead Fulton-Montgomery Community College to a 52-45 victory over Corning Community College in a Region III women’s basketball contest Saturday.

The Lady Raiders trailed 18-8 after one quarter before outscoring Corning 24-3 in the second quarter to take control of the game.

DiAsia DeBoue had 15 points and 14 rebounds for FMCC (8-4 overall), while McKiea Weekes grabbed 25 rebounds.

Breanna Palmatier finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds for Corning, while Autumn Edwards had 13 points. Taylor Herberger had 10 rebounds for the Red Barons.

The Lady Raiders are scheduled to host SUNY Schenectady on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
