Royal Mountain skiers compete at slalom meets

QUEENSBURY — The Royal Mountain U14 excelsior team competed at West Mountain both Saturday and Sunday in a slalom event. On Saturday, Jill Sandel finished 17th overall with a combined time of 2:00.75.

For the boys, Colin Cotter finished second overall with a combined time of 1:42.69 and Carter Cheney finished sixth overall with a combined time of 1:55.07.

On Sunday, Sandel was 13th in the first of two runs with a time of 1:03.39 and had a disqualification during her second run.

For the boys, Cotter finished ninth overall with a combined time of 2:03.45 and Cheney was seventh after run one with a time of 57.57 and did not finish his second run.

The racers will compete at Gore Mountain the weekend of Feb. 9th in a Super-G race.

The Royal Mountain Racing Team raced in a dual slalom at Woods Valley in Westernville on Sunday.

Samantha Sandel, Jakob Hanna, and Carson Cheney all won their respective age groups.

Embree Fielding (Caroga Lake) was second in the 8-and-younger division.

Wyatt Cox (Johnstown) was seventh, Ethan Stock (Johnstown) was ninth and Owen Cox (Johnstown) did not finish in the U8 boys division.

Molly Cook (Broadalbin) was third in the U10 girls division, while Gianna Ciaccio (Fonda) was sixth.

In the U10 boys division, Cheney (Johnstown) was third, Tanner Sandel (Gloversville) was third and Kosta Vahaviolos (Johnstown) did not finish.

Samantha Sandel (Gloversville) won the U12 girls divison and Sylvia Slingerland (Glens Falls) was second.

In the U12 boys division, Hanna (Johnstown) was first and Noah Stock (Johnstown) was eighth.

Megan Buffaline (Ballston Spa) was fourth in the U14 girls division.
