AMSTERDAM — Amsterdam belted three home runs on its way to an 8-3 victory over Watertown in a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League contest Saturday at Rao Family Stadium at Shuttleworth Park.
It was the eighth straight win for the Mohawks, who finished with 11 hits.
Max Costes was 3-for-4 with a home run, double, two RBIs and two runs scored for Amsterdam, while Michael Turconi was 2-for-3 with a home run, RBI and a run scored. Kevin Jimenez added a solo home run for the Mohawks, Sam Zayicek had a double and scored a run and JD Mundy had a single and two RBIs.
it was the ninth game this season that Amsterdam finished with 10 or more hits and the fifth straight game with at least 10 hits.
Five pitchers combined on a five-hitter for the Mohawks.
Trip Lockhart earned the win on the mound, going four innings, striking out eight, walking one, allowing five hits and three runs.
After Lockhart, four relievers allowed no hits and struck out 11 Watertown batters over the final five innings.
Will Gambino struck out two and walked one in one inning of relief for Amsterdam, Ryan Cardona struck out four and walked one in two innings, Chris Barraza struck out three and walked none in one inning, and Dylan Smith struck out two and walked none.
Derek Kasperzyk had a home run, two RBIs and scored a run for Watertown, while Drake Smith had a double and a single. Michael Rounds added a double for the Rapids and Vinny DeRubeis singles for Watertown’s only other hit.
Amsterdam (14-2 overall) is scheduled to travel to Saugerties today for a 7:05 p.m. contest.
Watertown (7-8 overall) is slated to travel to Utica today for a 5 p.m. game.
