Costes sets new Mohawks HR mark

AMSTERDAM — Max Costes put his name in the Amsterdam Mohawks’ record books Wednesday night.

Costes connected for his 10th home run of the season, a three-run shot in the fourth inning of the second game of a doubleheader with the Saugerties Stallions to break the franchise home run record of nine set by Handsome Monica in 2015.

The Mohawks swept both games of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League doubleheader with the Stallions, winning the first game 8-0 and the nightcap 16-2 at Rao Family Stadium at Shuttleworth Park.

Costes had a big night for the Mohawks, homering in both games to drive in six runs in the first game and five in the second and scored five times on just four hits.

The Mohawks and Stallions will square off in another doubleheader Friday night at Cantine Memorial Field before returning home to play the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs on Saturday. Fireworks are scheduled after Saturday’s game.
