FoJo’s Gray named All-American

JOHNSTOWN — Fonda-Johnstown swimmer Alayna Gray recently was named an All-American in the 50-yard freestyle by the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association.

Gray had a season-best time of 23.39 seconds to place 91st in the nation.

She was one of three swimmers from New York to earn All-America honors, joining Maggie Donlevy of Mary Louis Academy and Chloe Stepanek of Northport. Both Donvley and Stepanek posted a time of 23.32 seconds to place 79th in the country.

Gray, who is heading into her senior year, touched the wall third in the 50-yard freestyle at the New York State Publich High School Athletic Association championships with a time of 23.48 seconds to place third in the Federation standings and second in the NYSPHSAA championships.

Gray also was named a first-team Foothills all-star in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle. Gray won the Section II Division 2 title in both events and posted a pair of top-five finishes in the events at the state championships.

Gray also joined Julia Norris, Sophia Frenyea and Angelina Atwood on the 200 medley relay team, which was named to the second team. She also was part of the 400 freestyle relay team, along with Atwood, Frenyea and Abigail Rizzo, that was named honorable mention.

Victoria Huske of Yorktown High School in Arlington, Va., had the top time of 21.95 seconds.
