PLATTSBURGH — The Sage Colleges’ women’s volleyball team wrapped play on Saturday at the Plattsburgh State Cardinal Invitational, taking on both Hartwick College and Colby-Sawyer College.
Sage faced Hartwick first, falling 3-0 to the Hawks (25-17, 26-24, 25-21). Against Colby-Sawyer, the Gators fell 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-19).
Sage’s senior outside hitter Megan Ryder (Broadalbin Perth) earned a spot on the all-tournament team for her play this past weekend. The tri-captain added 52 digs in the four matches this weekend with double-digit dig performances in every match. Against Hartwick, she had 14 digs with four kills and a block assists.
Graduate performer Miranda Nethaway (Fonda-Fultonville) added five kills with a pair of block assists against Hartwick, while sophomore defensive specialist Kayla Weaver (Broadalbin-Perth) had eight digs with a pair of aces in the contest.
Against Colby-Sawyer, Nethaway hit a red-hot .462 after adding six kills with 7.5 points and three block assists. Ryder was 18-2 in receiving attempts (.900%), while racking up 11 digs.
On Friday, Sage faced Plymouth State and host Plattsburgh State on the opening day of the tournament.
The Gators lost 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 26-24) to Plymouth State before dropping a 3-1 decision to Plattsburgh State by scores of 28-26, 20-25, 25-20 and 25-17.
Against Plymouth State, Nethaway hadd five points with her four kills and a pair of block assists. Ryder had eight digs with four kills and an ace.
Against Plattsburgh State, Nethaway finished with 11 points after posting eight kills with four digs, two aces and a pair of block assists, while Ryder posted 10 points after racking up 14 digs with eight kills, an ace and a block assist.
