Area athletes earn state-meet spots

ALBANY — Several area athletes were among those earning spots for the New York State Public High School Athletic Asssociation Indoor Track and Field Championships at Sunday’s Section II State Qualifier at UAlbany.

Broadalbin-Perth’s Tino Mancini won the shot put with a throw of 51-10 3/4 to earn a trip to the state meet.

Amsterdam’s Jacob Gomez (21-3 1/4) was second in the long jump to earn a trip to states.

Broadalbin-Perth’s Ava Tyler was third in the pole vault with a height of 10-6 to qualify for states.

Several other area athletes posted solid finishes.

In the girls meet, Amsterdam’s Charli Beekman was fourth in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.45 seconds.

Amsterdam’s Kayla Sondrup was 14th in the high jump with a height of 4-6. whole Amsterdam’s Sydney Szcezpanik (29-2) was 15th in the shot put.

Broadalbin-Perth’s Kayde Smith (31-8 1/4) was 14th in the weight throw.

In the boys meet, Broadalbin-Perth’s Zydain Jackson was 10th in the 55-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 7.07 seconds and ninth in the 300-meter dash prelims with a time of 39.26 seconds.

Amsterdam’s Trevor Dzikowicz (2:49.09) was 10th in the 1,000 meters, while Fonda-Fultonville’s Shane Viscosi (4:42.97) was ninth in the 1,600 meters.

Fonda-Fultonville’s Christian Pearce (8.71 seconds) was 10th in the 55-meter hurdle preliminaries.

Broadalbin-Perth’s Jeffrey Shlomovich (10-6) was 10th in the pole vault, while B-P’s Hunter O’Dell was fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 41-1 3/4.

Fonda-Fultonville’s Alex Saltsman was 13th in the shot put with a throw of 39-1 and eighth in the weight throw with a throw of 42-9.
