Western Athletic Conference announces bowling awards

MIDDLEBURGH — The Western Athletic Conference announced its bowling champions and league honors on Tuesday.

Bishop Gibbons won the boys varsity league championship with a 59-5 record, while Fonda-Fultonville placed second in the team standings with a 55-9 record and Fort Plain placed third with a 48-16 mark.

Middleburgh won the girls team championship with a 32-0 record, with Fort Plain second with a23-9 record and Berne-Knox-Westerlo placed third at 11-21.

Birshop Gibbons’ Alex Belcher was recognized as a WAC all-star and the league MVP, while Middleburgh’s Jaidyn Rose was honored as the girls’ MVP and as an all-star.

Rose also posted the high average for the girls with a 215 and Belcher carried the boys’ high average with a 207.

Middleburgh’s Tyler Mann rolled the league’s high series with a 740 and Cameryn Shultes of Middleburgh rolled the girls top series with a 695.

Fonda-Fultonville’s Tomek Kowalczyk posted the high single of the year with a 299 game, while Mayfield’s Madison Dann had the girls high single with a 265 game.

Earning all-star status for the boys were Duanesburg’s Tyler Drexel (204 avg.), Middleburgh’s Mann (200 avg.), Fonda-Fultonville’s Kowalczyk (197 avg.), Canajoharie’s Dereck Merenes (197 avg.) and Bishop Gibbons’ Angelo Balafaro (196 avg.)

Earning all-star honors for the girls were Middleburgh’s Schultes (196 avg.), Julia Bingham (184 avg.) and Dani Chichester (173 avg.), Mayfield Dann (182 avg.) and Fort Plain’s Emma Oldick (169 avg.)
