Braves, Sir Bills post Class C victories


FONDA — The Fonda-Fultonville Braves closed out their Fall II football season with a 40-0 victory over Watervliet Saturday at John G. Boshart Field at Fonda-Fultonville High School.

Giovanni DiCaprio led the first-half scoring with touchdown runs of 50 and 11 yards,w hile Jackson Cusack had a 50-yard punt return and Zen Myles added a seven yard touchdown run to go with a 49-yard touchdown run by Jose Vargas for a 34-0 halftime lead.

Myles capped off the Braves scoring with a fumble recovery in the end zone in the final minute of play.

DeCaprio finished with 97 yards rushing and two touchdowns on six carries, while Myles had four carries for 48 yards and a touchdown and Vargas finished with two carries for 49 yards and a touchdown.

Watervliet quarterback Ayden Spenard turned in a 7-for-21 passing effort for 75 yards and carried the ball 23 times for 17 yards, while Diogenes George rushed the ball seven times for 26 yards.

The Braves starters did not play in the second half as injuries early in the game to a depleated Watervliet squad brought their roster down to the minimum allowed to keep the game going.

Johnstown 46,

Ichabod Crane 20

VALATIE — Chase Benton and Caden Mureness put their stamp on their senior season by leading Johnstown to a 46-20 victory over Ichabod Crane Saturday at Ichabod Crane High School.

Mureness threw for four touchdowns in a 9-for-9 174-yard passing performance and rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown in five carries.

Benton rushed the ball 21 times for 222 yards and a touchdown and made seven tackles on defense.

Senior Shawn Chiddick added a 76 yard touchdown run on his line carry of the game.

Mureness’ touchdown passes went to Ben Krempa, Connor Betts, Brandon Frank and Ryan Hoyt.

Defensively, Brodie Loucks had eight tackles and a pass deflection, while Ethan Petrie had seven tackles to go with five tackles apiece from Betts and Hoyt.

The Sir Bills were originally scheduled to play Gloversville on Saturday, but COVID on the Huskies squad forced the game to be canceled and Johnstown was able make a last-minute schedule change to travel to play the Riders.

Johnstown finished the season 2-3.
