Johns’ four-goal performance lifts Middleburgh past Fonda-Fultonville

FONDA — Middleburgh got a four-goal performance from Austin Johns as the Knights defeated Fonda-Fultonville 5-0 in Western Athletic Conference boys soccer action Friday at John G. Boshart Field at Fonda-Fultonville High School.

Kaurice Bell and Johns staked Middleburgh to a 2-0 halftime advantage before Johns added three second-half goals to wrap up the victory.

Fonda-Fultonville coach Matt Bloom credited Kaden McRedmond and Jacob Sisco, who made 12 saves in goal for the Braves, with having good games.

Northville 6, Canajoharie 1

CANAJOHARIE — Cody Haig put Canajoharie up 1-0 three minutes into Friday’s Western Athletic Conference match before Northville connected for six unanswered goals to take home the victory from Canajoharie High School.

The Cougars narrowly missed a second goal when Braden Gerenslete’s header hit the crossbar.

Northville (7-2-0) answered just two minutes later when Curtis Arnold feed a ball forward to Wyatt Sira, who settled it, split the defense, and netted it to tie up the match at ones.

Thirteen minutes later it was time to mark one down for the weather as a Northville corner kick swirled in the high winds causing a defender to miss hit a clearance that bounced across the goal line.

Shortly after, Northville’s Sira sent a long throw over everyone to a charging Blake Forman who knocked it home from the far post.

Sira finished the first half scoring when he connected on another assist from Arnold.

The only goals in the second half were two from Arnold, both came on long punts from Landon Frasier.

Northville coach Steve Clapper credited JT Artikuski, Caleb Clapper and Griffin Leiby for having standout play in the match

Haig and Tommy Weingart also turned in strong performances for Canajoharie (2-6-0) and goalkeeper Will Douglas who made a late-game diving save.

Mayfield 3, Fort Plain 0

FORT PLAIN — Mayfield went to Fort Plain and put together a good game to defeat the Hilltoppers 3-0 Friday at the Fort Plain Sports Complex.

Midway through the first half, a handball in the box resulted in a penalty kick, but Fort Plain goalkeeper robert Jordan made a save on the PK.

With five minutes left in the first half, Christian Scunziano had a hard shot from wide and Kenny Dennis put in the rebound to give the Panthers a 1-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Kenny Dennis played Britain Goodemote who calmly finished on the far side of the goal to double the lead.

With three minutes left to play, Scunziano scored a goal of his own to give Mayfield a 3-0 lead.

Trevor Ruberti and Brody Deal played well for Mayfield, while Aiden Martuscello got the shut out in goal. For Fort Plain, Estee Smith and Matt Travis played well.
