Whitcavitch powers Lady Braves to win over Mayfield

MAYFIELD — Marilyn Whitcavitch finished with 18 kills, eight blocks and six digs to help Fonda-Fultonville to a 3-1 victory over Fonda-Fultonville in a Western Athletic Conference volleyball match Saturday.

The Lady Panthers won the first set 26-24 before the Lady Braves won the final three sets by scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-23.

Madisyn Dineen posted 10 kills and five digs for FFCS, Amber Cole had 40 assists, three kills and three aces, and Carolyn Cranker finished with six kills and five digs. Maddy Mott added four digs, three aces and three assists for the Lady Braves.

Deandra Myers posted 21 digs, nine kills and two blocks for Mayfield (2-3 overall, 1-2 WAC), while Madison King recorded 10 service points, seven kills, three aces and one block. Lila King registered 18 digs and five service points for the Lady Panthers, Morgan Ashline had seven kills and four points, and Tori Ruliffson posted 10 assists. Alissa Wilbur added 11 service points and nine assists for Mayfield.

The teams are scheduled to meet against Tuesday at Fonda-Fultonville at 6:30 p.m.

Non-league

Galway 3, Niskayuna 0

GALWAY — Amber Kolpakas finished with 16 kills, two kills and an ace to lead Galway to a non-league victory over Niskayuna on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles won by scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-12.

The win was the 195th career victory for Galway coach Mike Glenn.

Julia Reedy recorded 14 kills, 11 digs, three aces and a block for the Golden Eagles, while Katy Kurtzner had 27 digs. Kylee Decker notched 22 assists, 10 digs and two aces for Galway, Diana Colangelo notched eight blocks and four kills, and Grace O’Brien had 11 assists, three blocks and three kills. Sadie Underwood and Trishelle Oliver each had four blocks and three kills for the Golden Eagles.

Cat Schiavi had 17 kills and four digs for Niskayuna (8-2 overall), while Anna Bennett posted four kills and two aces. Katie Atchinson notched 23 assists for the Silver Warriors and Laura Mason added 11 digs and five aces.

Galway (7-3 overall) is scheduled to travel to Middleburgh on Monday for a 6 p.m. contest.
