Mohawks deal Utica first loss

AMSTERDAM — In an early-season battle of division leaders, the Amsterdam Mohawks dealt the Central Division leading Utica Blue Sox their first loss of the season, 5-1 Thursday night at the Rao Family Stadium at Shuttleworth Park.

Kai Roberts and CJ Funk homered for the East Division leading Mohawks (5-2), while Brett Young had a double and two singlesStone Miyao doubled and singled for Amsterdam, while Jaake Reinisch doubled and Brett Coker had a pair of singles.

Harris Williams had a double and a single for the Blue Sox (5-1), while Tanner Kim doubled.

Teddy McGraw got the win on the mound for the Mohawks, striking out five and allowing three hits.

Utica starter Seth Petry struck out six and allowed seven hits while Eric Steensma took the loss in relief.
